Carlisle Renaissance

Caldew Riverside

The biggest single investment in Carlisle's learning infrastructure ever

Caldew Riverside is a priority area for regeneration in Carlisle. Located on the western edge of the City Centre adjacent to the City's Historic Quarter, it has been identified as the preferred location for the new headquarters and campus for the University of Cumbria.

The development of Caldew Riverside will provide a first class learning and teaching environment with the highest quality facilities and services. It represents a major commitment by the University and its partners to raise the level of skills in the local economy, and attract and retain talent and investment in Carlisle.

The first phase of development will extend to over 20,000m2 at a cost of more than £70m. It will accommodate the faculties of arts, business and social sciences, the head office for the University and a range of administrative, student services and community facilities. It is planned to open in time for the beginning of the 2013/14 academic year.

Carlisle Renaissance is working with Carlisle City Council to assemble the site for remediation and make it available for development by the University.  We are also working with the University on the preparation of an integrated development plan for Caldew Riverside, including the masterplan for the first and future phases of development.

The Caldew Riverside Partners Group oversees the work of the Caldew Riverside Board.
